Has gained considerable experience working with different institutions and agencies and has expertise in commodities, policy analysis, institution building and cross-cutting issues. He is in his own right a coffee expert, having served in that industry for 15 years. Fred has participated as consultant in consultancies with the Government of Uganda, the World Bank, DFID, EU, USAID, among others. He is a certified trainer under the ITC UNCTAD/WTO. Served as a Member of National Working Group for Training Managers in International Marketing (International Trade Centre UNCTAD/WTO Project), prepared several case studies, two of which were published in the ITC UNCTADWTO Casebook

Experience

Fred has a proven track record in pioneering and facilitating new initiatives, having set up the Uganda Coffee Trade Federation and later the Eastern African Fine Coffees Association, developed a system to create financial sustainability for the not-for-profit association through an annual conference and exhibition that turned a vision for service into a reality. He has excellent team skills -- functioning, facilitating, and leading dynamically in and working through teams, and was able to establish collaborative coffee networks in the different countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. He has developed people development skills over time that have enabled him to mentor and empower others to take over and lead the organisations that he has set up where he would see the potential, motivate and provide and/or ensure training and equipping of staff to undertake their assignments.

Fred served as founder member and Executive Director, Eastern African Fine Coffees Association, and was very successful in marketing the organisation regionally and internationally. He was the initiator of the African Fine Coffee Conference and Exhibition, a landmark event in the African coffee industry, rotating annually in different coffee growing countries. Previously, he worked as CEO of the Uganda Coffee Trade Federation and prior to that as CEO of the Uganda Coffee Exporters Association which he helped to set up and transform later into an industry wide coffee federation.

He has participated in training of industry executives and presented many papers at international conferences and workshops. In his experience he served as a member of the team that set the Uganda Coffee Development Authority, and he developed that statistical reporting system that tracked the marketing of coffee throughout the industry. He served as a member of the delegation to the International Coffee Organisation (ICO) for 10 years and also served on the Private Sector Advisory Board of the ICO for 4 years. He also served as a consultant at the World Bank Headquarters, and on the Board of Advisors to the World Bank's International Task Force for Risk Management, 1999-2001.
